Astigmatism is basically an irregularly shaped cornea. If the cornea is not spherical, light rays entering the eyewill scatter, creating a blurry image on the retina. Astigmatism is very common, and it is rare to have absolutely no astigmatism in the cornea. Astigmatism is corrected with glasses, contact lenses, LASIK, PRK, or refractive lens exchange.
