Refractive Lens Replacement

  • What Is Refractive Lens Replacement?

Refractive lens replacement is the same procedure as cataract surgery, with the exception that the natural lens being removed is clear instead of cloudy. The natural lens is removed and replaced with a crystal-clear lens implant. The lens implant has power, thereby correcting the patient’s prescription inside the eye. This is an option for patients who have a very strong prescription that falls outside the treatment range of LASIK and PRK. Besides clear vision without glasses or contact lenses, this procedure has another long-term bonus: the patient will never develop a cataract later in life. There are different lens implants to choose from with this procedure, including:

    • Standard
    • Toric
    • Extended Range of Focus
    • Multifocal
    • Accommodating
  • Am I a Candidate for Refractive Lens Replacement?

Refractive lens replacement is an elective procedure. If you have been told that LASIK or PRK cannot treat your full prescription, then you might be a candidate for refractive lens replacement. We offer afree consultation with Dr. Hummel to determine which procedure is best for you.

  • How Much Does Refractive Lens Replacement Cost?

Just like cataract surgery, refractive lens replacement must be performed in an outpatient surgery center or hospital; which incurs greater costs than an in-office setting. All costs associated with this elective procedure can be discussed during a free consultation with Dr. Hummel.
